This post is about the Georges Pompadou center in Paris, France. This building was designed by an Italian architect Renzo Piano and British architect Richard Rogers. The structural system of this building are steel superstructure with reinforced concrete floors.
For me this building is not beautiful because it looks like is not finished yet.It seems that it still needs a lot of work to be finished. I like how it has different colors, it makes it pop out from the rest of the other buildings around it. I think that it would look way better if it had walls around the steel and tubes from the building. I think that the inside of the building is cool. I also like the stairs that you can see through.
There are persons that say that they don't like the building because of how it looks.

  1. I completely agree with you. The building has pipes revealed and it looks as if there is no wall on the sides. However, it surely has been crafted in that way. Yes, it does look like it hasn't been completed- but I think that was part of the beauty of it. This building has a purpose and it has fulfilled that purpose- as we have learned in "utilitas".

I don't understand why it is a popular destination. I believe it would look better if they put up some walls on the exterior.

The idea of an escalator, especially in these popular areas, is very exciting and useful.

  2. I understand your point that some people dislike the building because its awkward shape, but then how do you explain its tremendous popularity? Do you think this building is a good example of static or dynamic space? How about the form? Is it sculptural, structural, or rather superficial?
